Maou Lyceum No. 82 is a state mathematical lyceum of Nizhny Novgorod with a rich history and a strong educational base. The school is the laureate of the Russian competition «The best school of Russia». It is among the top 100 best math schools in the country. The core subjects for the school are mathematics and physics. The guys are making great progress in these areas and often win national-scale Olympiads.
Problem: There is no holistic approach to identity. Only the logo is used. The identity is not attractive to the younger generation and doesn’t distinguish the school in the education market.
Task: Update the general style of the school and make it attractive and interesting to use. Not only for existing students, but also for new students. Become an example for other schools in using and updating of the identity.

The old logo was a coat of arms, in which an owl sat on a mathematical ruler, and the formula integral dx flew around. It was very important for the school to keep every symbolic element in the logo. The owl is a symbol of knowledge. The Mathematical ruler is a reference to the core subjects of the school. Integral dx is a symbol of unity.
The logo has been greatly simplified. Added a wordmark and horizontal orientation of the logo.

The original colors of the school were yellow and burgundy. The yellow color remained the same, and the burgundy color was changed to purple. Due to this change, the colors have become more bright, playful and joyful.

The main elements of identity became formulas and simple figures with which students interact every day. Such a solution will emphasize the mathematical bias of the lyceum.
In order to be able to easily create the movement of the formula lines was created a website where any student could enter the desired formula and draw the formula lines with a brush. The finished drawing can be downloaded and used in a new design. This playful element gives the student the opportunity to express themselves and create his own design for a school notebook or any other bearers.

Since our design elements are quite active, the font was chosen calm and easy to read. This solution makes it easy to interact with the font not only for schoolchildren but also for elderly teachers.

We don’t forget about the main symbol of the school — Owl, as well. On different bearers, it is different, somewhere maskot jumps merrily, somewhere it looks attentively, somewhere Owl flies towards knowledge. The integral dx is a symbol of unity. This sign for the logo was designed by a female mathematician and a teacher. The sign is important for both teachers and students, so it serves as an independent additional element in the design

At the presentation of the identity to school, schoolchildren especially liked the stickers. So they immediately wanted to use them in social networks. The main character of the stickers, of course, is an branded Owl.
